The stage shifts entirely to the demon world. Right now it hangs in a tense balance as three great demons, Raizen, Yomi, and Mukuro, vie for supremacy. Yusuke heads for Raizen, his ancestor and in truth his real father; Kurama goes to Yomi, his former master; and Hiei, burdened by the fate of the ice clan, makes for Mukuro. Each is drawn toward one of the three great demons by his own past and the destiny in his blood. Raizen, who has disciplined himself by refusing all food despite his hunger, finally reaches the end of his life. With one corner of the balanced three-way standoff collapsing, a vast upheaval that will engulf the entire demon world begins to stir.

Raizen starves to death after continuing to refuse food of his own will, and his death shatters the delicate balance of the demon world. Even as Yusuke inherits his father's power and will, he faces the reality of conflict with the two remaining great demons, Yomi and Mukuro. Confronted with a demon world that could plunge into all-out war, Yusuke rejects the old way of seizing the summit by force and puts forward a completely new solution: holding a martial arts tournament that involves the entire demon world. Rather than the three factions clashing army against army, the strongest fighters compete in a bracket, and the winner rules the demon world. This grand proposal to end the bloodshed pushes the story toward its final chapter.
