Volume 17 sees Conan face a killer who won't confess even in front of solid proof, and an unheard-of trick that kills with sound. A weapon that vanished, a gimmick hidden inside a clock, people terrified that "a demon appeared" — one by one, Conan calmly untangles the crimes woven around him. In the later chapters the cipher "L-N-R" takes on real weight, and as all the players fall into place the story reaches toward a far larger mystery. Even in a boy's body, the detective's reasoning never dulls in this tense volume.

Case Closed Vol. 17 spoilers
⚠️ Spoilers ahead.
In the sound-murder case, the culprit uses a recording of a specific frequency that strains the heart to kill a victim with a chronic condition from a distance. Conan exposes the absent killer through a playback device and a volume note left at the scene. The vanished-weapon mystery relies on a blade made of ice or food that melts away, and Conan breaks the alibi using the gap between room temperature and melting time. The clock gimmick fakes the time of death with advanced hands, and Conan catches it through a slip in the second hand. The "L-N-R" cipher is quietly planted as a thread leading into the next volume.
