Conan reads the disturbed footprints and a doctored voice on the phone to expose the switch, then locates the murder weapon buried in the snow. The bond-of-fire case turns out to be revenge by someone who lost family in an old blaze, with the charred evidence telling the whole story. In the potters' scheme, a mismatch between kiln temperature and firing time shatters the fabricated alibi, and Conan closes the case by tranquilizing Kogoro and voicing the solution through him.
