Hanamichi Sakuragi has finally become a member of the Shohoku basketball team, but the tedious fundamentals drills forced on a beginner bore him to death. Dreaming only of thunderous dunks, he clashes daily with strict captain Takenori Akagi. Then a scrimmage is arranged pitting the first-years against the upperclassmen.
