Having claimed Hisoka's plate, Gon watches as the magician sets his sights on Leorio and Kurapika. Though Hisoka's murderous aura leaves Gon frozen with fear, he steels himself to protect his friends. The surviving applicants finally reach the final exam, overseen by Chairman Netero, where victory hinges not on raw power but on a cruel psychological contest of who will bring down whom. Volume 4 depicts the tense climax of the Hunter Exam.
