Shoyo Hinata has been shut out of volleyball his whole life for one reason: he is too short. But ever since he saw the legendary "Little Giant" tear up the court on TV, he has believed that jumping is the one thing no one can take from him. In his first and only middle-school tournament, he finally steps onto the court, only to be crushed by Tobio Kageyama, a genius setter known as the "King of the Court." Swearing revenge, Hinata enrolls at Karasuno High and joins its volleyball club, only to find Kageyama waiting there too.
