The Takasugi-Kamui encounter is far more than a handshake. Both hide ambitions to gut the Harusame from within, and this meeting becomes the fuse that will eventually detonate the clash between the Joui rebels and the Amanto powers. Kamui, shadowed by his father Umibozu, bares a raw hunger to be the strongest, while Takasugi schemes to use him to topple the shogunate. Their aims seem to align but are fundamentally at odds, and the strain here feeds directly into the later Rakuyo arc and Utsuro's machinations. Behind the gags, the story tilts decisively.
